Omer Shatzky took us through a day of his work at Wix. This is what it looks like

My name is Omer Shatzky and I’ve been mastering the complex world of payments for the past 11 years.

At Wix I've been heading our Billing and Payments group since 2016. I’m also the lead focal point for ongoing and future product improvements, strategic partnerships, and new ventures.

My main achievement at Wix is founding Wix Payments, a payment service that allows merchants to manage orders and payments from within the Wix ecosystem, without needing third-party payment providers. We serve tens of thousands of business owners around the world every month and millions of end users, and we’re growing tremendously every day.

When I was asked to document a day in my life, I tried to figure out what my typical day at Wix looks like, and came up with an answer: it feels like an ironman tournament - a combination of a long distance run in which I’m crafting our next generation of payments and fintech services, while also sprinting to bring those amazing services into life so we can provide a better experience for our users.

Sounds challenging? Sure, but it’s my favorite part about what I do and it keeps me alive and energetic.

So here we go, a small glimpse into a day in my Wix life:

06:30

I love the quiet while I drink my coffee and read the financial headlines. It’s my domain and my passion. Watering my plants is next. It’s a necessity in these super hot days, but it’s also a hobby and a mission: making my small garden bloom with flowers.

10:00

I’m grabbing another coffee on the way to the office, but before that I’m syncing in the park with my team of fintech masters and my Payments management peers.

We’re all close friends and top notch professional workmates and our joint creative thinking process is one of the key factors in our success. Covid made our meetings a lot harder to facilitate, so we’re trying to work around it by meeting when it’s possible.

We aim to create something different in the heavily regulated, complicated and sometimes overwhelming ecosystem of financial services that we’re working in. Two of Wix’s core values are being customer-centric and using technology that produces the best user experience. Combining those values with a commitment to uncompromising professional care for our team and peers creates a unique and amazing place to work in.

Wix is growing at a super fast pace and we need to bring in more talented people. Currently, I’m focused on hiring a new Head of Risk and a Senior Fintech Expert. The company is at a unique turning point: we’re boosting up our payments offering and expanding to new markets and territories, while serving millions of users. That means that my sales pitch for these roles is well heard among senior and experienced candidates.

I’m enjoying this headhunt, because during the process I get to know some very smart and knowledgeable experts, and by that expand my professional and personal network. So this means I’m on LinkedIn quite a lot these days. I’m sure that at some point I’ll meet some of those people again as peers or partners.

There are some days when I'm so wrapped up in work that I forget about eating lunch, and don't have time to order anything decent. On the other hand, it became almost a tradition to celebrate big moments with a good lunch - and these are happening more and more often. So I can't really complain!

Here we’re celebrating a major milestone, and talking about the super challenging moments we had back when we were a team of only 10 people. Just so you know - our Billing and Payments group now has more than 250 employees.

As part of what I do, I’m also heading The Fintechies - a group of professionals from various disciplines in the fintech space: underwriters, risk, compliance, fintech experts etc. We have monthly meetings intended to expand and share our knowledge in this field, and get a better understanding of our direction and what we can do together to improve things.

After work it’s time to cool down with some chillout music and lowlights and enjoy a Netflix binge with my family. When we’re done, it’s time to regain energy. A brand new day will soon begin.
