Lee Byrne from our Dublin office started out at Wix as a Customer Care Expert and found it to be the very first stop on a rapid journey of personal growth
About 3 years ago, just before we opened our office in Dublin, Lee Byrne was first exposed to Wix through a YouTube ad. At the time, he was working in customer service at the flagship IKEA store in Dublin for almost six years, and started to feel that it was time for change. “I was tempted to apply, but there was a bit of fear holding me back at that point,” he recalls.
A few months later things changed. “I saw that another position was available and I bit the bullet and put in an application, really not expecting anything to come from it,” he says. “When I got the call for an introduction I was thrilled, it was really from that moment that I knew there was a place for me within the company. The idea of being part of a new organization in our market and really being part of the astounding growth is what sold me.”
And Wix indeed grew during Lee’s time with us. “I came onboard in May 2019 as a Customer Care Expert - around 8 months after the Dublin site was established. I was somewhere between the 60th to 70th employee hired at the time. Now it’s amazing to see that in such a short period of time we’re about to reach 500 employees!,” he says.
Can you tell us about your journey at Wix?
“I’ve been super fortunate during my time at Wix. From the day I was hired, I’ve felt a tremendous amount of support from my colleagues and with that I’ve been able to grow both personally and professionally. In two short years I’ve been able to progress from a Customer Care Expert, to Team Lead to my current role as a Group Manager where myself and my colleague Ed lead a group of talented leaders and their 100+ Experts! If I had to choose one favorite part of my current role, it’s the ability to support people with their own growth and development in the company. A close second is how we can really transform our customers' businesses by listening and understanding their needs.”
Was it difficult to preserve our culture in a WFH reality?
“I was fortunate enough to have come onboard prior to the pandemic, so I really understand the people and culture and how it all contributes to “The Wix Way”. When working from home became the reality for us all - we were all a little skeptical of what that would mean for us. I thought there would be a challenge in keeping the culture thriving, but we have a fantastic Workplace Experience team that works tirelessly to make every day that little bit more enjoyable for us all.”
What are you looking forward to when we gradually adopt a new life routine?
“I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to the office and having a well deserved beer after work on a Friday. Really though, we’ve grown from 130 people since the transition to working from home to 500 people currently - that’s 370 more people to meet and build connections with. Although we might have met on Zoom or virtual events, nothing beats that face to face connection.”
You’ve mentioned “The Wix Way”. Can you describe what it means to you?
“For me, “The Wix Way” is just the way we are. It’s something that’s instilled in us all. We’re a group of multicultural, diverse, passionate people that LOVE what we do regardless of which part of Wix we’re in. You can be a developer building one of our top-notch offerings or a Customer Care Expert providing world-class care - the goal is the same, and who’s to say we can’t have a whole lot of fun while we’re on the way?”
