There are so many reasons to make a change in your career path. Whether it’s an opportunity for mobility, a role change, or even a change in environment. Wix is dedicated to helping all of our driven employees grow with us. Our people are ambitious, and sometimes finding their next challenge means growing outside of Wix, too. Some of our employees have experienced both sides of this coin by going out on their own and coming back to us. One of our “boomerangers” is Daria Silvera. We spoke with her about her career journey to learn more.
How did your journey at Wix start?
I was a student in 2021 studying psychology, and I reviewed the career page at my university and saw a job opening at Wix. I applied and got the job! I started my part-time student position working in the Talent Center helping recruit for the FED Guild. I really loved assisting recruitment and quickly found my community within Wix. There was so much flexibility in terms of my schedule and so much understanding and trust when it came to my studies. After I graduated I was offered the opportunity to stay on in a full-time position, but due to life circumstances I had to go to New York with my partner.
What was the process like for you when leaving Wix?
It was a really sad goodbye. I was really sad to leave my role and my team especially, but I had a feeling I’d be back. Everyone was so understanding about my departure and encouraged me to go on this once-in-a-lifetime journey. My connection with my manager was really strong and we kept in touch throughout my time in New York, on a professional and personal level. My team was always checking in on me even after the move, and I sent pictures and updates back. It was so great for me to have their friendship and support.
"I knew my journey at Wix wasn’t over; I felt like I also had so much more to give and so much more room to grow."
Did you learn anything in your time away from Wix that helped you develop personally or professionally?
While I was abroad, I worked for a much smaller company and gained a completely different working experience. Professionally, I knew I had a lot to learn and working for a smaller team helped me gain skills and confidence I needed for my career development.
I also grew a lot personally. Taking the leap and living abroad gave me much more independence. I had a great experience seeing and learning from different cultures and broadening my horizons.
What made you want to come back to Wix?
Honestly there were many reasons. Although I felt I gained important tools and experiences from my job in New York, I felt limited by my growth potential there. I always admired Wix’s commitment to internal growth and saw first-hand how my colleagues continued to grow and take on new challenges as time went on. I knew my journey at Wix wasn’t over; I felt like I also had so much more to give and so much more room to grow. Now, I’m back at the Wix Campus in Tel Aviv as a Talent Center Recruiter for the BA and Product Guilds. I see a lot of potential to keep learning more and growing within the HR team at Wix.
There are so many benefits to working at Wix, the amenities, the fact that it’s so dog friendly, the trust between employees and management, the flexibility and room for development. But, I think the biggest reason I wanted to come back was the people and the way Wix treats its people. They really care about their people. It’s not just what they say, it’s what they do. I never felt like a number, I was always treated like a person. It seems obvious, but it really isn’t something that can be taken for granted.
